Clinical OPD

I built four coordinated clinic portals around one patient record for the coordinator, doctor, pharmacy, and lab.

Frontend developmentInterface design in codeFull-stack implementation

A clinic depended on one experienced coordinator to hold the daily operation together.

Walk-ins, doctor availability, consultation notes, prescriptions, pharmacy stock, and lab requests were tracked informally. The product needed to preserve one patient record while giving each role only the information and actions required at that point in the visit.

Clinical OPD

The story is on the left. The decisions behind it are below.

The decisions that made it work

01

The patient is the unit of work

Coordinator, doctor, pharmacist and lab each see the same patient from a different operational angle, rather than four systems that need reconciling.

02

One page per consultation

Vitals, notes and prescription on a single screen. A doctor with eleven minutes per patient does not scroll.

03

Polling, not websockets

A queue that updates every fifteen seconds is indistinguishable from real time to a human standing at a desk, and it survives the clinic's internet. Websockets would have been the more impressive answer to a question nobody was asking.
